Privacy notice

Last updated 27 April 2026

At a glance

We collect your email address (and optionally postcode) only when you sign up for price alerts.

We use it only to send the alerts you asked for. We don't sell or share it for marketing.

You can unsubscribe in one click from any email, and we'll delete your record.

Lawful basis: your consent, given via double opt-in.

UK-based site. Data stored in EU regions.

Who we are

comparethefirewood.co.uk is operated by an individual sole trader based in the United Kingdom. We are the controller of personal data described in this notice. For any data-protection enquiries, contact us at privacy@comparethefirewood.co.uk.

What we collect, and when

The only personal data we collect is what you give us when you sign up for price alerts:

Email address — required, so we can send you the alerts.

UK postcode — optional, captured at signup. Reserved for future local-supplier alert routing; not currently used.

Subscription preferences — which alert types you opted in to (price drops, seasonal early warning, annual reminder) and the month for the annual reminder if selected.

Activation timestamp — the moment you confirmed your email, recorded so we know which subscriptions are active.

We do not collect names, phone numbers, payment details, or anything else. We do not track which products you view or which links you click in our emails.

reCAPTCHA: when you submit the subscribe form, Google reCAPTCHA performs a bot check. This involves Google receiving your IP address and browser information. See Google's privacy policy for what they do with that.

Why we use it

Email address and preferences are used solely to:

Send the confirmation email when you sign up.

Send a single follow-up reminder if you don't confirm within 24 hours.

Send the price alerts you opted in to, when they trigger.

Send the annual reminder, if you selected it, on your chosen month.

We never sell your email address. We do not share it with firewood suppliers or any other third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Lawful basis for processing (UK GDPR Article 6)

We rely on your consent. You give consent by submitting the subscribe form and by clicking the confirmation link in the activation email (double opt-in). You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking "Unsubscribe" in any email or visiting the unsubscribe link directly — no questions asked, no further emails will be sent, and your record will be removed.

How long we keep it

Confirmed subscriptions: kept as long as you remain subscribed. Removed within 24 hours of you clicking unsubscribe.

Unconfirmed sign-ups: if you don't click the confirmation link within 7 days, your record is automatically removed.

Server logs: technical logs (timestamps, status codes, no email content) are retained for up to 30 days for operational and security purposes, then automatically purged.

Where your data is stored

Your subscription record is stored on infrastructure located in the United Kingdom and European Union.

Some of our sub-processors (notably Google) may transfer data outside the UK/EU under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards. We do not transfer your data ourselves.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

Ask us what personal data we hold about you (right of access).

Ask us to correct anything inaccurate (right to rectification).

Ask us to delete your data (right to erasure / "right to be forgotten").

Ask for your data in a portable format (right to data portability).

Object to processing or restrict it.

Withdraw your consent at any time.

The fastest way to exercise the last two is to click "Unsubscribe" in any email. For the others, email privacy@comparethefirewood.co.uk and we'll respond within 30 days.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies:

Strictly necessary: required for the site to function (e.g. session, CSRF protection).

reCAPTCHA: set by Google when you load a page with the subscribe form, to assess whether you're human.

Analytics: Google Analytics sets cookies to measure aggregate site usage. We do not use these to identify individuals.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. If you disable strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site (notably the subscribe form) may not work.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top tells you when. If we make material changes that affect how we process data you've already given us, we'll email subscribers before the change takes effect.
