Buying Firewood in Summer (2025)

This article is based on 2025 data, stay posted for our 2026 review.
An unseasonably warm spring kickstarted the UK summer in 2025, a familiar pattern in recent years. For most of us, our stoves and fireplaces will now be out of use until Autumn.
Why is summer a good time to think about firewood?
We've been monitoring firewood prices for a long time and as you might expect - summer presents a great opportunity to get stocked up ready for the next cold season.
Firewood prices follow a seasonal pattern, rising in winter as demand peaks. During the colder months, higher fuel consumption keeps suppliers busy, and this is reflected in prices. In summer as demand drops, there are deals to be found as suppliers lower their prices to help clear stocks and boost lower sales.
2024 - 2025 price summary
Last year, the difference between the average highest and lowest price (per loose cubic metre) was around 10% (£15 per cubic metre). With the average household burning between 2 and 5 cubic metres per season, this could mean an annual saving of around £75 - just from buying at the right time!
